The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) serves as the highest authority for coordinating, directing, and overseeing agricultural research and education throughout the entire nation under the supervision of DARE, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.

India's ICAR-AU System consists of a total of 74 Agricultural Universities. Among these, there are 63 State Agricultural, Veterinary, Horticultural, and Fisheries Universities (SAUs), along with 4 ICAR-DUs, namely IARI, IVRI, NDRI, and CIFE. Additionally, there are 3 Central Agricultural Universities (CAU) located in Imphal, Pusa, and Jhansi, as well as 4 Central Universities (CU) that have a Faculty of Agriculture. These Central Universities include BHU, AMU, Viswa Bharati, and Nagaland University. The National Agricultural Research, Education, and Extension System (NAREES) in India is renowned for its size, admitting more than 28,000 students at the undergraduate level and over 17,500 students at the master's and doctoral levels annually. These students pursue various disciplines within Agricultural and Allied Sciences.
The National Testing Agency has been given the responsibility by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) to conduct the All India Entrance Examinations for admission to Masters (PG) & Doctoral (Ph.D) programs in Agricultural Universities and to provide scholarships and fellowships for the academic year 2024-25. Here are the details:
ICAR AIEEA (PG) (M.Sc.)
ICAR AIEEA (PG) is the entrance examination conducted at the national level for admission to 30% of the seats in Master degree programs in Agricultural Universities (AUs). This examination is also responsible for filling up all the seats (100%) in the four ICAR-DUs, namely Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI), and Central Institute of Fisheries Education (CIFE), as well as in CAUs, namely RLBCAU, Jhansi and Dr. RPCAU, Pusa. It is important to note that no more than 40% of candidates from any one state can be admitted to any agricultural university for a specific subject and category.
Throughout the nation, numerous candidates aspiring to pursue Master degree programmes in various fields such as Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, Veterinary, Animal Sciences, Agricultural Engineering, Community Science, Fisheries, Dairy Science, and other related sciences are given the opportunity to participate.
The ICAR PG Scholarship will be granted to a select number of candidates based on their performance in the examination and availability of seats in different disciplines. Additionally, deserving candidates will receive the National Talent Scholarship (NTS) in accordance with the updated guidelines. Only candidates who have been deemed eligible for registration and counseling by ICAR will be considered for subject allocation and placement in an Agricultural University. It is important to note that admission to any Master degree programme through ICAR is contingent upon successfully passing the ICAR AIEEA (PG) examination.
ICAR AICE-JRF/SRF (Ph.D.)
The ICAR AICE-JRF/SRF (Ph.D.) is a national competitive examination for admission to 30% of the total seats in various agricultural universities under the ICAR-AU system, including Dr. RPCAU Pusa, RLBCAU Jhansi, and ICAR Deemed to be Universities such as ICAR-IVRI, IARI, CIFE, and NDRI. Additionally, no more than 40% of candidates from any single state can be admitted to any agricultural university/subject within a specific category. The ICAR JRF/SRF (Ph.D.) will be granted to a limited number of candidates based on their merit rank and the availability of seats in different disciplines. Other candidates who qualify for counseling will be eligible for admission to the Ph.D. degree program without fellowship, based on their merit rank and seat availability in the specific subject at the Agricultural Universities. These eligibility conditions also apply to in-service candidates. Only candidates declared eligible for counseling by ICAR will be considered for subject allocation and Agricultural University. Admission to any doctoral degree program through ICAR is contingent upon qualifying in the ICAR AICE-JRF/SRF (Ph.D.) examination.
The exams are conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode, with the question paper consisting of objective type Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).
